TH05 Open Source Architecture - CANCELLED
05/15/2008, 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM

Learning Units: 1.00-Intermediate level

Training Units: 0.25-Training Area 16 (Professional and Community Service)

As we enter the 21st century, the field of architecture is at a crossroads. From Hurricane Katrina to the war in Iraq, large-scale urbanization, disaster, and conflict has destabilized not only our political structures but also the built environment, prompting many to question the building practices of the past. Is an alternative path for our profession one that engages people where they live and work and recognizes that sustainability is not a luxury but a necessity?

Learning Objectives:
  • Discover new ways of collaboration between the architecture industry and communities in need
  • Compare and contrast different models of socially responsible design
  • Use the Open Architecture Network and review new tools for sharing and collaborating
