The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the U.S. Green Building Council, and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America have developed a standard for high performance, green buildings that would apply to all buildings except low-rise residential buildings, Standard 189. The standard addresses sustainable sites; water use efficiency; energy efficiency; the building's impact on the atmosphere, materials, and resources; indoor environmental quality; and construction and operation. This session summarizes the standard and provides background on the intent.
Learning Objectives:
- Design projects that comply with the Standard 189 requirements for a high performance, green building
- Explain the background and intent for the Standard 189 requirements for a high performance, green building
- Compare design criteria with the requirements in Standard 189 requirements for a high performance, green building
