Learning Units: 3.75-Intermediate level
Training Units: 0.9375-Training Area 3 (Schematic Design)
An interactive presentation demonstrating architectural daylighting principles and strategies and how these should influence the design process from the conceptual design phase forward. After a discussion of daylighting's historical role, basic solar dynamics, and tools and techniques, participants will work in small groups to construct models solving a given design problem. Daylight model-testing is used to predict and analyze the effects of building orientation, location, massing, and form.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize the elements of a genuine daylighting design
- Use daylighting tools and techniques such as sun-path diagrams to determine building orientation, massing, and form
- Evaluate how effective daylighting may save energy and money
