TH53 The AIA Practice Academy: Collaboration and Innovation in Education and Practice

The AIA Practice Academy is a new partnership among the AIA, the architecture academy, and architecture firms to provide a framework for a rigorous internship for students and architecture interns. The Boston Architectural College, the University of Cincinnati, and Iowa State University will demonstrate successful ways that firms and schools can join forces in supporting emerging professionals and will highlight challenges they have learned from in the first two years of the pilot program.

Learning Objectives:
  • Initiate committed relationships between schools of architecture and/or universities and architecture firms that are mutually beneficial and knowledge generating
  • Examine the benefits of stimulating life-long learning for architecture professionals, beginning with interns, through the partnership of academics and practitioners
  • Integrate coursework with practical experience to prepare a student for a highly contributing role in the architecture profession
