Volunteerism is inherent in the mission of our profession and key to the success of any leader for tomorrow. One of the best ways to accelerate the development of emerging professionals is to allow them the opportunity to become engaged in pro bono work. This session serves to inspire emerging professionals and seasoned practitioners to develop their leadership potential as future leaders in the profession by making a real difference in their communities.

Learning Objectives:
  • Discuss ways to pursue pathways for alternative community-based work, thus raising the quality and quantity of pro bono design, service, and work in the public interest in their local communities
  • Demonstrate to local community leaders why design matters
  • Discover leadership opportunities for emerging professionals by discussing the social ethics of volunteerism, individual responsibility, and community service in the architecture profession
