TH65 Research in Architecture: The Challenge to Foster a Culture of Creating and Sharing Knowledge
05/15/2008, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Learning Units: 1.50-Entry level

Training Units: 0.375-Training Area 17 (Applied Research)

Recognizing a need for research in architecture, the AIA and Boston Society of Architects have launched funding programs and, in five years, awarded more than half a million dollars. Following AIA adoption of a strategic goal to be a knowledge-driven organization, the profession has instituted a framework for generating and disseminating knowledge. This session provides an overview of the programs, encourages professionals to recognize research under way, and promotes development of a culture of creating and sharing knowledge.

Learning Objectives:
  • Articulate an informed position about benefits to the field of architecture in fostering a variety of forms of research, including both in academia and the profession
  • Identify sources of funding available to support practice-based and practice-oriented research
  • Describe tools available and action needed to contribute to a culture of creating and sharing new knowledge and overcome obstacles that may exist to accessing and applying relevant research in your practice
Speakers: Sherry Ahrentzen, PhD, Assoc. AIA; Carol J. Burns, FAIA, LEED AP; and Thomas R. Fisher, Assoc. AIA

Provider: Boston Society of Architects
