TH84 The Value of Architecture Centers
05/15/2008, 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Learning Units: 1.00-Entry level

Training Units: 0.25-Training Area 17 (Public Outreach)

Architecture should be the most accessible of all art forms, yet for most Americans it remains a distant concept. Architecture centers democratize and demystify architecture. This seminar explores the vital role that architecture centers play in the formation of creative cities. As symbols of urban vitality, architecture centers provide portals for the physical and intellectual exploration of the city, facilitating collaboration among architects, civic officials, and the general public.

Learning Objectives:
  • Demonstrate the role of architecture centers in educating about sustainable built environment practices and the social ramifications of architectural decisions
  • Identify ways to encourage public participation in the physical and intellectual exploration of the city and visioning about its future
  • Determine how architecture centers can provide opportunities for collaboration among stakeholders in the development of the built environment
Speakers: Fredric M. Bell, FAIA; Diane Filippi; and Lynn J. Osmond, Hon. AIA

Providers: Chicago Architecture Foundation and AIA New York Chapter
