SA21 Media Relations for the Small-Project Practitioner: Spreading the News Like a Light in the Old North Church
05/17/2008, 8:15 AM - 9:45 AM

Learning Units: 1.50-Advanced level

Training Units: 0.375-Training Area 15 Office Management

Two small lamps in the Old North Church provided sufficient light to spread the word in Paul Revere's day. Today's small-project practitioner faces more challenges in communicating to the average citizen news of the architect's essential role in the health, safety, and welfare of society. We'll demystify engaging in media relations and give the small-project practitioner access to the basic media relation tools needed to garner increased public visibility.

Learning Objectives:
  • Define media relations, identify the common media relations tools, and recognize the role of media relations in a marketing mix
  • Access available AIA media resources and garner tips addressing the media, including creating, customizing, and distributing a press release, a pitch letter, and a press kit
  • Leverage media relations for maximum exposure to meet marketing objectives
Speakers: Scott Frank and Kevin L. Harris, AIA, CSI, NCARB

Providers: AIA Media Relations, AIA Small Project Practitioners, and Kevin Harris, Architect LLC
