E27 Dining at the Firms: Wilson Architects CANCELLED
05/15/2008, 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM

374 Congress Street, 4th Floor (Red Line-South Station)

From their open studio office overlooking the new Seaport District, Wilson Architects combines sophisticated science and technology with careful campus design for higher education and pharmaceutical clients. Their design philosophy combines context and communication. Each project is like their office environment, and consists of a variety of spaces, from private to public, which are linked together to emphasize teamwork and communication.

Projects you can review and discuss include a new 80,000-gross-square-foot research facility for AstraZeneca; new classroom prototypes for Duke University; the new 135,000-gross-square-foot Nano Lab at Harvard University, designed in collaboration with Raphael Moneo; four new buildings and a renovation totaling more than 500,000 gross square feet as part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's new Physical Science Complex; and the University of Chicago's renovation of the Searle Chemistry Building, the campus' first LEED silver project. Visit www.wilsonarch.com to learn more.

But the discussion doesn't end there. Take a virtual tour of beautiful Greenvale Vineyards located just north of Newport, R.I., while enjoying a variety of their wines. Greenvale Farm is a historic Victorian farm that has been in the same family since 1863, and is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. Vintner Nancy Wilson and winemaker Richard Carmichael will lead the group through a tasting of delicious coastal New England wines, all estate grown. The 5,000-square-foot stable, now the Tasting Room, was designed and built in 1863 by John H. Sturgis, a young architect in Boston who later designed such buildings as the Church of the Advent in Boston, the original Museum of Fine Arts at Copley Square, and the Webster Ames House in Boston. Review the history of this architectural treasure and take a virtual walk in the vineyards of Greenvale.

E27 Thursday, 6:30-9 p.m., $125
