Learning Units: 7.50-Intermediate level
Training Units: 1.875-Training Area 6 (Code Research)
Applying the building code is a multiple-step process. This program will detail the proper occupancy classifications and how to determine the acceptable type of construction. The afternoon will examine the use of fire walls, fire barriers, fire partitions, smoke barriers, and smoke partitions. Fire suppression and alarm requirements follow, and the program will conclude with means of egress provisions.
Learning Objectives:
- Develop a plan to design a code-compliant building
- Determine a building's allowable height and number of stories, based on type of construction, occupancy classification, and sprinkler provisions
- Apply means of egress requirements, including establishing occupant load, number and width of exits, and travel distance
