05/15/2008, 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM

Learning Units: 1.00-Advanced level

Training Units: 0.25-Training Area 17 (Historical Restoration and Energy Conservation)

As the first LEED platinum certified building for Harvard University, Blackstone Station is a standard bearer of sustainable design for all future campus development. The new facility is the result of the transformation of three historic masonry structures into a single state-of-the-art green building. It is also the first consolidated headquarters for Harvard's University Operations Services, the client group who desired a collaborative workplace environment that would ensure occupant health and comfort.

Learning Objectives:
  • Apply or modify the specific and unusual design elements and sustainable applications elsewhere in your other building projects
  • Appreciate the importance of examining the potential new uses for historic structures and how renovating such structures may not only embrace the past but may be the most sustainable and cost-effective solution
  • Evaluate the structure and procedure of an integrated approach to the planning and design process
Speakers: Leland D. Cott, FAIA, LEED AP, and George Oommen, AICP, LEED AP
