TH24 Inventing with a Reluctant Community
05/15/2008, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Learning Units: 1.50-Entry level

Training Units: 0.375-Training Area 17 (Participatory Design Process)

Public projects can seem doomed when caught in the crossfire of rival stakeholder groups. Using a case study of Palmer Events Center in Austin, this seminar will show how an interactive, participatory workshop was used to resolve rival interests and clear the way for an architectural solution that succeeded without pandering.

Learning Objectives:
  • Implement a participatory workshop
  • Facilitate the workshop
  • Translate the workshop into successful architecture
Speakers: Chad Floyd, FAIA, and Jay W. Barnes, AIA

Providers: AIA Austin, AIA Connecticut, Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects, and Centerbrook Architects
