WE31 Designing Density: Boston Five Years After the Density Conference HSW

Leaders in urban design, architecture, development, community involvement, and public approvals will review Boston's recent approach to density from many different perspectives. The program will address setting the stage (planning, preservation, urban design), the development process, architectural design, community involvement, and public review and approvals. Participants will visit four projects and attend a postworkshop Center for Communities by Design reception.

Learning Objectives:
  • Analyze a full range of urban design and architectural issues, using built examples inherent in higher-density mixed-use development in historic and other established neighborhoods
  • Review the financial feasibility and other development issues critical to making higher-density mixed-use development work in urban settings
  • Describe how to organize and carry out a highly interactive community involvement process for higher-density mixed-use development in established communities
