WE51 Architects in Court: A Mock Trial HSW

In this session we present in an abbreviated fashion the actual workings of a trial. The facts of the case are based loosely on a real-life lawsuit. The goal is to demonstrate how a trial works-what goes on in the court room-and how it is different from what one sees on television. A working title for the presentation is There but for the Grace of God Go I. Come discover how to mitigate your legal exposure and avoid lawsuits.

Learning Objectives:
  • Appreciate how a civil trial actually works-the roles of the parties in court and what happens to a design professional on trial
  • Identify the types of design activities that can increase legal liability
  • Explain the importance of the role of expert witnesses in professional malpractice cases
