Designed by Cambride Seven Architects (C7A), the Boston Children's Museum expansion and renovation has transformed one of the country's premier children's museums with a straightforward, geometric armature addition connecting an existing 19th-century warehouse building.

Join project architect, Steve Imrich, AIA, while we explore the connecting glass bridge reveals new energy and an excitement of programs previously hidden behind the heavy brick façade. This new transparency and openness allows for a sense of wonder and discovery. Tour the museum and the adjacent Children's Wharf, exploring its opportunities for participatory learning through an integration of architecture, landscape, exhibitions, sustainability, natural light, and vistas with an animated orchestration of indoor and outdoor activities.

Learning Objectives:
  • Recognize the connections between the existing building and the new addition, waterfront to the building, discovery and armature and how the balances between these inform the mission and purpose of a place of discovery
  • Explore spaces that are conducive to participatory learning and support the museum's connection to the Boston waterfront
  • List the sustainable choices, both seen and unseen, that are integral to the design
