Sustainable development requires a revisit of possibililties-looking at design and materials in a broader, holistic manner. Durable materials (concrete, steel, brick) often have large amounts of embodied energy invested in them. Beyond being gray and hard, how can concrete save energy, improve indoor air quality, or enhance water quality? And what is the cement and concrete industry doing to make this fundamental material more sustainable?
