Come and explore two important projects in South Boston, only blocks from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Our first stop is the Macallen Apartment Building, a pivotal building in the urban revitalization of South Boston. Members of the design team will share how Office dA considered various typologies in order to articulate a striking design within a developer's financially competitive budget.
Then we walk a few blocks to the Artists for Humanity's (AFH) EpiCenter, Boston's first platinum LEED-certified building and a recipient of a 2007 AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects award. A nonprofit organization that has served urban youth since 1991, the AFH applied its ingenuity and tenacity to this building project. The result is the EpiCenter , its new headquarters. Members of Arrowstreet's design team will guide us through this extraordinary facility with its fine and commercial art studios along with a 5,000-foot gallery space that is used to show student art and special events, including Late Nite Movies, an AIA-related event on Thursday, May 15th (see E33).
Both of these projects demonstrate how design and ingenuity can achieve green buildings even within limited budgets.

- Examine the operation of this LEED platinum building, including its mechanical systems, from the point of view of its staff and other users
